Overview

Transdev in Boston, MA is seeking experienced B-Level Mechanics to bolster our team. This role demands expertise in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a fleet of diesel, propane, and electric engine school buses. As a Mechanic, you'll play a crucial role in ensuring safety, efficiency, and longevity for our vehicles.

Compensation

Position Subject to Collective Bargaining Agreement:

  • $28.66 (minimum) - $39.78 (maximum) per hour (Union Collective Bargaining Agreement Payscale)

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct diagnostic tests using advanced tools and software to troubleshoot diesel, propane, and electric engine issues.
  • Perform moderate complexity repairs and replacements on diesel, propane, and electric engine components, ensuring optimal functionality.
  • Assist A-Level Mechanics in advanced diagnostic and repair tasks, contributing to efficient workflow.
  • Execute routine maintenance tasks to prevent breakdowns and optimize diesel engine performance.
  • Lead diagnostic tests to accurately identify complex issues and determine comprehensive repair strategies for diesel, propane, and electric engines.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting and repair tasks on diesel, propane, and electric engines, including overhauling and rebuilding components to required specifications.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior technicians, assisting them in developing their skills and knowledge.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Three (3) years of experience as a Diesel or Automotive Mechanic.
  • Bus or heavy-duty truck repair experience preferred.
  • Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.
  • A High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.).
  • A degree in Automotive Technology, Engineering or a related field preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and maintain an excellent motor vehicle record.
  • A valid Class B Commercial Driver's License preferred.
  • ASE certifications in school bus, heavy truck, and/or transit bus preferred.
  • Must possess a Mechanic's Tool Set.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, and various heavy equipment engines, transmissions, starting and charging systems, brake systems, electrical systems, and component overhaul procedures.
  • Ability to operate hand tools and power tools required for the position.
  • Ability to work in a safe manner.
  • Ability to comprehend parts books and maintenance manuals, and accurately complete any necessary reports or other documents.
  • Must be able to work shifts or flexible work schedules as needed.
  • Subject to DOT drug testing and physical if applicable. DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including cannabis, for any reason.

Physical Requirements

  • The essential functions of this position require the ability to work in environments with varying temperatures, weather, and humidity; may work alone or in remote locations.
  • Occasionally stand, stoop, squat, and walk for extended periods; bend, kneel, or crouch to access files or equipment at ground level; use hands and fingers to handle small parts; push buttons; climb ladders and stairs as needed.
  • Sit or stand for extended periods (up to 6-8 hours per day); frequently walk for long distances and on possible sloped ground, or slippery and uneven surfaces.
  • Must lift up to 50 lbs., carry up to 15 lbs. up to 100 feet, push/pull up to 50 lbs. throughout the day; handle moving parts and operate vehicle controls as required.
  • Must tolerate exposure to dust, vehicle fumes and noise; work in heavy traffic areas.
