Jamestown Macadam, Inc. (JMI) is seeking an experienced and dynamic
General Manager - Ready Mix Concrete
to lead and coordinate all aspects of our ready-mix concrete operations. This high-impact role blends strategic sales management with daily operational oversight to drive revenue growth, ensure customer satisfaction, and maintain operational excellence. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, deep knowledge of concrete products, and a proactive approach to market development in both New York and Pennsylvania.

Key Responsibilities
Sales, Pricing & Market Strategy
Set and maintain pricing for concrete, precast products, and related trucking services. Quote all project types, including municipal, residential, commercial, and DOT. Monitor and analyze competitor pricing and bid environments in two states and multiple counties. Identify bid opportunities through websites and market media (municipal, commercial, and state). Select appropriate projects to pursue and coordinate material quantities and delivery logistics.
Operations Management
Oversee daily operations of the concrete and precast divisions. Align operational practices with company values and strategic goals. Coordinate cross-departmentally to ensure smooth manufacturing, delivery, and service. Manage plant operations and ensure adequate stock for next-day production needs.
Customer & Contractor Engagement
Build and maintain strong relationships with contractors, municipalities, and DOT officials. Coordinate job scheduling and material types/quantities with clients. Provide technical recommendations on products, applications, and best practices for concrete placement.
Staff & Team Development
Mentor junior sales staff, plant operators, and quality control technicians. Provide training and counseling for drivers, dispatchers, and yard personnel. Host regular meetings for drivers, dispatchers, and mechanics to align team performance. Support cross-training initiatives for batching, dispatching, and quality control functions.
Business Development & Public Relations
Represent JMI at industry events, association meetings (e.g., Southern Tier Builders Association), and seminars. Support acquisition strategies and explore new business opportunities. Maintain memberships and contribute to PR efforts with towns, municipalities, and contractors.
Quality Assurance & Dispute Resolution
Administer concrete additives and oversee on-site quality control. Monitor material quality and proactively resolve issues or disputes with customers. Attend preconstruction and weekly internal management meetings to review current and upcoming projects.
General Management Support
Assist with general management duties and serve as a liaison between ownership and operations. Ensure ownership remains informed of market trends, performance, and future opportunities.
Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of experience in concrete/precast sales or operations management. Strong leadership and team-building skills. Knowledge of concrete mix designs, specifications, and additives. Familiarity with DOT and municipal project specifications in NY and PA. Excellent organizational and communication abilities. Ability to read plans, interpret specifications, and prepare material submittals. Valid driver's license in good standing; ability and willingness to travel as needed.
Preferred Certifications
ACI (American Concrete Institute) or DOT Concrete Quality Control Certifications. OSHA/Safety certifications are a plus.
