The Library seeks an experienced leader to serve as the Director of the Digital Services Directorate (DSD), responsible for the Library’s digital collections, discovery, and metadata management services. The DSD will lead transformational changes, including selecting and implementing new enterprise discovery, collection management, and metadata management systems, and oversee programs such as web archiving, crowdsourcing, collections digitization, and workflow development. This position collaborates closely with the Library’s Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) to plan, implement, and maintain discovery and management tools. The Directorate, part of the Library Collections & Services Group (LCSG), encompasses three divisions: Digital Collections Management & Services, the Integrated Library Systems Program Office, and the Business Analysis Team, totaling 82 staff and contractors. The role offers the opportunity to impact national library services and connect the Library to the American people and the world. Duties

Overall responsibility for digital collections, metadata management services, and the Library-wide Integrated Library System (ILS). Lead the lifecycle management of digital collections, discovery services, and workflow analysis within LCSG. Provide analytical, technical, managerial, and advisory support across programs. Coordinate with service unit leadership, the Library’s infrastructure offices, and external organizations to develop and implement technology solutions. Manage the effectiveness of the Directorate, including communication, cooperation, and leadership of staff and managers. Participate in long-range planning and strategic discussions with senior management. Oversee administration and operations, ensuring goals are met efficiently and effectively. Evaluate and modify programs and operations as needed. Handle human resource functions, including performance management, staffing, training, and discipline. Serve as the primary advisor on programs and operations, and counsel senior management and external stakeholders. Participate in inter-agency work groups, task forces, and expert panels.
