Overview
Hajoca Corporation is one of the country’s largest privately-held wholesale distributors of plumbing, heating & cooling, and industrial supplies. Hajoca operates with a decentralized structure where each Profit Center (PC) is run like its own small business. Gorman Company is one of these trade names and is looking for a Delivery Driver (CDL) at the Clearwater, FL location.
Responsibilities
- Operate trucks safely and in compliance with company rules, applicable laws, and regulations. Destinations include job sites, customer facilities, vendor facilities, other Hajoca locations, facilities of other wholesalers, or other locations as directed by management.
- Load the truck with Hajoca merchandise, secure the load to prevent shifting or damage, and ensure the necessary equipment for unloading is available. Attach DOT hazmat placards if hauling hazardous materials in excess of 1,000 lbs.
- Understand and verify shipping documents and have accurate directions to delivery destinations. Review shipping documentation for order accuracy.
- Unload merchandise at the receiving site, obtain legible signatures for deliveries per policy, and collect outstanding payments for all cash sale deliveries before releasing material.
- Resolve shipping discrepancies with customers at the delivery site and load merchandise at other locations as needed (vendor locations, customer returns, or purchases from other wholesalers).
- Provide sales leads by noting prospective customer names and addresses discovered during deliveries.
- Inspect the truck and required parts to determine safe operating condition before departure. Keep the cab and body free of debris; report mechanical problems to management. Complete the Driver’s Daily Vehicle Inspection Report for GVWR 10,001 lbs or more if defects are found.
- End-of-day tasks include securing keys in the approved location and completing required safety and compliance training programs. Perform other related duties as assigned.
About You
- Be able to drive a vehicle over 26,001 lbs and have a valid CDL with hazmat endorsement if required by the vehicle’s placarding.
- Be at least 21 years old and possess a valid CDL with driving record acceptable to the company policy.
- Be able to pass DOT physical examinations before starting and at least every two years while employed.
- Know the laws and regulations governing driving motor vehicles, including those under DOT for commercial vehicles.
- Safely operate delivery vehicles with GVWR 26,001 lbs or more; apply safety precautions in warehouse and material handling environments.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with customers, vendors, and co-workers; stay calm in stressful situations.
- Learn to operate warehouse material-handling equipment and computer systems used in the delivery process. Read, write, speak, and understand English; perform basic arithmetic (add, subtract, multiply, divide) as needed.
