Responsibilities

• Plans layout, installs, and repairs wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment in accordance with specifications and local electrical codes.
• Prepares sketches showing location of wiring and equipment, or follows diagrams or blueprints, ensuring that concealed wiring is installed before completion of future walls, ceilings and flooring.
• Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles, and installs electrical conduit, using tools such as hacksaw, pipe threader, and conduit bender.
• Splices wires by stripping insulation from terminal leads, twisting or soldering wires together, and applying tape or terminal caps.
• Connects wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment, and installs grounding leads.
• Tests continuity of circuits to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components, using testing instruments.
• State license required. Performs additional duties as directed by electrical supervisor.

Education and Certification

• Education: High School Diploma, GED or equivalent years of experience
• Certification: Completion of training program. Must be licensed.
• Work Experience: Appropriate training and experience required

• Work easily and skillfully with hands
• Climb and maintain balance on ladders and scaffolds
• See well (naturally or with correction) and distinguish colors
• Reach for, handle, and grasp wires and hand tools
• Bend, crouch, and work in small places
• Lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds
