Job Summary
Note:
This opportunity will be 3 months in duration.
As a Patient Care Assistant, you will work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, supporting patient care delivery and ensuring a safe, compassionate environment. This role is essential to the daily functioning of the unit and requires excellent teamwork, communication, and empathy.
Key Responsibilities: Provide direct patient care including hygiene, mobility assistance, nutrition support, and comfort measures. Take vital signs, record patient data, and assist with admission, transfer, and discharge processes. Respond to patient call lights and support safety measures such as ambulation and positioning. Assist in technical tasks such as EKGs, specimen labeling, oxygen therapy equipment setup, and basic treatments as directed by the RN. Maintain a clean and safe work environment and follow infection control protocols. Support quality assurance, patient confidentiality, and the mission of UCSF Medical Center. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

Department Description
UCSF's Temporary Employment Program (TEP) recruits and hires temporary employees for immediate clerical and technical support services to UCSF Departments and various off-campus locations. UCSF departments deploy temporary employees to work on special projects, fill in for regular employees who are on vacation or leave, or to temporarily fill a vacant position during recruitment. Frequently temporary employees become successful candidates for career and limited appointment positions.
Required Qualifications
Ability to work effectively within a team. Strong communication skills in English, both oral and written. Basic arithmetic skills (addition and subtraction). Ability to prioritize and organize workload. Successful completion of UCSF Patient Care Assistant training. Basic computer skills. Ability to act as a first responder in emergency situations. Willingness to learn new skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of medical terminology.
