River Bluff Middle School is looking for a long-term special education teacher (learning strategist) through our substitute partner, ESS.

This is a temporary position for the 25-26 school year

Job Summary:

Responsible for planning individualized academic and behavioral instruction and delivering special education services to students with identified disabilities to make progress to become proficient learners.

Essential Job Functions:

Develops lesson plans and implements an academic and behavioral curriculum consistent with state standards and individual student needs.

Establishes and maintains an effective learning environment that is safe and secure for students and staff.

Establishes and maintains a plan that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students while continuously reviewing the student's least restrictive environment.

Collaborates with all educators to develop curriculum and classroom climate to meet the needs of all learners.

Shares responsibility for all students through teaming, individualized small group instruction, and large group instruction.

Consults with general education staff to evaluate student progress on a regular basis, consistent with state and federal laws, and Board approved policy.

Maintains all appropriate records including IEPs, progress reports, classroom observation records, and other records as required.

Coordinates, prepares for, and facilitates IEP meetings with a focus on achieving goals within the structure of the curriculum when appropriate.

Completes all legally required IEP paperwork using District software by required deadlines.

Coordinates necessary supportive services including district specialists and outside agencies when needed, to meet each student's needs.

Assists in the development and implementation of individualized behavior plans.

Collects data relating to student attendance, behavior, and instructional progress as outlined in the IEP.

Consults, communicates, and works cooperatively with parents, colleagues, and students on a regular basis.

With general education staff, plans assignments for educational assistants and/or volunteers.

Effectively collaborates with administration and general education staff to problem solve issues of significant conflict.

Attends staff meetings.

Provides community-based and non-school instruction as determined by the IEP.

Provides functional skill instruction, when appropriate, based upon the IEP.

Assists in the development of student class schedules and placement.

Qualifications

AA degree or higher with a WI Substitute Certificate

Criminal History Clearance

Ability to collaborate and plan within a team that may include other special education teachers, general education teachers, related service providers, and members of various outside agencies.

For Short-Term Assignments 45 days and less:

Hold any valid teaching license or a short-term substitute license

For Long-Term Assignments 45+ days : Hold valid teaching license related to assignment.
