For over 25 years, National Experienced Workforce Solutions (NEW Solutions) has specialized in connecting experienced workers (ages 55+) with full-time and part-time job opportunities that support the critical missions of Federal Agencies across the United States.

NEW Solutions connects experienced workers (ages 55+) with the National Park Service (NPS). These experienced professionals provide administrative expertise, facilities management, natural and cultural resource planning, and a broad array of other professional skills that support the National Park Service through the Experienced Services Program (ESP).

Positions listed here do not guarantee employment for any definite period. Enrollment in the Experienced Worker Programs administered by NEW Solutions is temporary. The enrollment relationship between NEW Solutions and the Enrollee is an at-will relationship. This means that an Enrollee is free to terminate enrollment at any time during the enrollment period, and NEW Solutions and the Agency have the right to terminate the relationship with the Enrollee.

PLEASE NOTE: An Enrollee is not a federal employee, nor an employee of NEW Solutions. An Enrollee is a participant in a grant program established through a Cooperative Agreement funded by the agency and administered by NEW Solutions.

Qualifications

  • AA Degree with minimum additional experience of 5 year(s) in In reception for large organizations
  • Prior experience with reception is required.
  • Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook
  • Phone systems

Duties

  • Provide support to the NPS National Capital Regional Office in staffing the main reception desk on a part-time basis. Work schedule will likely be 5 days in a pay period — 2 days one week and 3 days the other week. 30%
  • Provide security service and reception services for the NCR Headquarters building. Report promptly to the Building Manager, NCR Chief Ranger, and/or the Deputy Regional Director any conditions or issues which may constitute a threat to the assets or an operational impact. This includes, but is not limited to: Fire, theft, damage to the building, presence of suspicious or unauthorized persons in, near, or attempting to gain entry to the building, sick or injured persons, any other condition that might result in a claim against the United States Government, and process improvements related to reception and receipt of packages and mail. Report routine building maintenance issues promptly to the Building Manager either verbally or in writing. 25%
  • Security - Monitor and check in the persons entering the NCR Building. The doors to the building must remain closed, and use of an automatic door unlocking device will be available for use. If any law enforcement assistance is required, U.S. Park Police shall be called to respond to the NCR Building; the enrollee will not be expected to perform any type of law enforcement duties. 20%
  • Mail Delivery - If parcels are delivered to the main NCR Headquarters building, instruct the company on the location of the mail room and notify the mail room of an expected delivery. 5%
  • Phone answering: Answer the phone in a courteous and helpful manner. Transfer calls to the appropriate NPS employee or take and deliver messages. 10%
  • Administrative Support: Provide administrative support, including but not limited to payroll, travel, and property. 5%
  • Upon completion of enrollment term, provide notes and an exit interview regarding coverage needed (times of day, days of week, length of shift), strengths/weaknesses/opportunities for the operation of the front desk position, etc. Also, maintain data and provide a report on the visitation status of the office. 5%

  • Physical requirements: Job is primarily sedentary and performed at a desk, but occasional lifting of packages weighing up to 15 lbs may be required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
