Qualifications Required:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid New Jersey Electrical Contractor's License
- Strong knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), NJ Uniform Construction Code (UCC), and applicable OSHA regulations
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documents
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial or institutional electrical work
- Valid New Jersey Driver's License with a clean driving record
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Must pass a criminal background check as required by NJDOE
- Ability to lift and carry up to 90 lbs., climb ladders, work from lifts/scaffolding, and perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, and standing for extended periods
- Experience working in a school or public sector environment
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
- Familiarity with energy management systems and school security systems
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures in accordance with job specifications, electrical codes, and district policies
- Install, test, and repair primary and secondary high-voltage building panels and disconnects
- Calculate equipment and system requirements to ensure proper load distribution
- Install and maintain conduit, conductors, junction boxes, receptacles, switches, and lighting systems
- Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures based on job specifications and local codes
- Repair and maintain motors, starters, pumps, chillers, boilers, fans, and related HVAC equipment
- Replace lighting ballasts, lamps, and bulbs
- Install and repair coaxial and data cabling systems
- Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, or repair needs; ensure compliance with codes
- Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components using test equipment and hand tools
- Inspect and test safety equipment such as fire alarm detectors, exit signs, and emergency lighting
- Use specialized test equipment (e.g., ohmmeters, voltmeters, megger, VTVM, VOM)
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, diagrams, building plans, and technical manuals
- Conduct preventive maintenance including inspection, testing, cleaning, and lubrication
- Maintain compliance with safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), PPE usage, and fire safety standards
- Ensure tools and equipment are properly maintained and stored
- Respond promptly and professionally to maintenance work orders and emergency calls
- Maintain records of work performed, materials used, inspections conducted, and service logs
- Estimate time, materials, and costs for projects; order necessary supplies
- Collaborate with contractors, building inspectors, and district maintenance staff while maintaining a positive, professional attitude
- Participate in training and development activities as required
- Assist and train other maintenance staff in electrical systems repair and upkeep
- Perform other related duties as assigned, which may include grounds work, snow removal, or assisting during staff shortages
