Ascension Search Partners
Overview Ascension Search Partners has been engaged to hire a CFO to lead and elevate the finance and accounting operations for a real estate firm with multiple billions in AUM. This role is ideal for a financial professional who brings not only technical finance and accounting expertise, but also exceptional interpersonal and communication skills. You’ll oversee a distributed accounting team—ensuring smooth operations, strong team cohesion, and high performance while building out the finance function. Beyond internal leadership, the CFO will play a key role in managing and strengthening relationships with external stakeholders, including investment partners and lenders. You’ll be expected to present financial insights clearly and confidently to the CEO and broader executive team, helping drive strategic decision-making at the highest level. We’re seeking someone who thrives in a fast-paced, evolving environment and knows how to lead with both data and empathy.
Responsibilities
Oversee a distributed accounting team and build out the finance function while ensuring smooth operations and high performance. Manage and communicate financial insights to the CEO and executive team to drive strategic decision-making. Lead relationships with external stakeholders, including investment partners and lenders. Develop and maintain robust financial modeling, analysis, and reporting at the corporate level. Lead and close JV deals and related loan documentation as applicable. Manage finance and property accounting teams and promote cross-functional collaboration. Balance strategic oversight with attention to detail, and manage financial risk exposure. Lead change management initiatives focusing on people, process, data, and growth. Present effectively to the CEO and Board of Directors using accurate, salient data. Utilize ERP systems relevant to the real estate sector. Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Accounting CPA 15+ years of progressive experience from accounting through to finance Experience working for a private real estate operator Experience in a leadership role managing a small team in a player-coach capacity Proven success in elevating, maintaining, and leveraging corporate-level financial modeling, analysis, and reporting Experience leading and closing JV deals and related loan documentation Ability to manage a finance and property accounting team Ability to see the greater strategic picture and drill down into details when necessary Ability to manage and mitigate financial risk exposure Interest in capital markets High EQ, strong interpersonal skills, ability to manage up and down an organization, and business savvy Strong change management experience evaluating people, process, data, and growth Experience presenting to the CEO and Board of Directors with accurate data Experience with ERP systems in the real estate sector Seniority
