Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit their application within four months of appointment. The award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.
Qualifications
To qualify, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or licensing may be tentatively referred and selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met the initial appointment requirements are deemed to have met the basic requirements.
- Citizenship: U.S. citizenship required; non-citizens may only be appointed if qualified citizens cannot be recruited.
- Degree: MD or equivalent from an approved school.
- License: Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the U.S.
- Residency Training: Completion of an approved residency program leading to board eligibility. Approved residencies include those accredited by ACGME, AOA, or deemed equivalent with verified practice experience.
- Residents: Enrolled residents in accredited programs may be appointed as 'Physician Resident Providers' (PRPs) under supervision.
- Language: Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Preferred Experience: Board certification in Psychology preferred but not required.
- Physical Requirements: Light lifting and carrying, use of fingers, walking, standing, bending, and vision requirements as specified.
Duties
- Provide healthcare services at the Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System, including outpatient, telehealth, residential, inpatient, and consultation-liaison settings.
- Serve as a subject matter expert supporting the Behavioral Health team, including clinical education, consult coordination, and triage.
- Perform comprehensive psychiatric evaluations for Veterans with various psychiatric disorders.
- Deliver evidence-based therapeutic interventions, including assessment, psychotherapy, and medication management.
- Ensure compliance with relevant standards and policies, participate in team meetings, and collaborate with multidisciplinary team members.
- Participate in supervision and teaching of trainees, and engage in research activities as appropriate.
- Rotating call duties for after-hours/weekends may be required.
- Work schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
