Basic Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizenship Required.
  • Must have the ability to obtain / maintain a Public Trust clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree and 12 years in Data Science, Engineering (Aerospace, Civil, Electrical, etc.), Mathematics, Operations Research, Physics, or Economics or Masters degree and 10 years or PHD and 7 years experience.
  • Experience in data analysis, modeling, simulation, or operational research.
  • Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Python, R) and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
  • Strong skills in statistical analysis and working with large datasets.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and collaborative skills.
  • Strong background in statistical inference, regression analysis, stochastic processes, optimization, and Monte Carlo simulations.
  • Experience with SQL, PostgreSQL, or NoSQL databases for data extraction, transformation, and analysis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with FAA systems, aviation industry operations, or NextGen projects.
  • Advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) in a relevant technical or analytical field.
  • Experience with FAA systems, aviation industry operations, or NextGen projects.

  • Familiarity with big data technologies such as Hadoop or Spark.

  • Expertise in simulation modeling platforms or advanced analytical tools.

  • Familiarity with Simio, Arena, AnyLogic, or similar simulation platforms for modeling operational impacts and scenario planning.
  • Knowledge of Hadoop, Spark, or AWS/GCP big data ecosystems to handle and analyze large-scale aviation datasets.
  • Experience applying machine learning algorithms, predictive analytics, or neural networks to aviation or transportation problems.
  • Proficiency with AWS, Azure, or GCP for deploying analytical tools and managing data pipelines.

The ideal candidate will use advanced data science, mathematics, and simulation techniques to solve complex problems related to aviation safety and the National Airspace System (NAS).Whether you’re supporting safety validation efforts or leading teams on major FAA programs, your work will directly impact the millions of passengers and aviation professionals who rely on safe, efficient airspace operations every day.

In this position, you will:

  • Responsible for leading the development and application of advanced modeling and analytical techniquesto support the BNATCS program.
  • Ensure data-driven decision making, optimizing system performance, and providing strategicinsights to align with FAA modernization goals and operational standards.
  • Develop analytical tools, evaluate operational impacts, and deliver insights that directly influence policy, safety standards, and NextGen modernization initiatives.
  • Conduct safety studies by analyzing complex aviation data to identify trends, hazards, and risks.
  • Develop and enhance analytical tools and simulation models to evaluate FAA systems and forecast the impact of new technologies, standards, and procedures.
  • Perform operational impact analyses for airports, including establishing annual service volume and assessing new procedures.
  • Create data visualizations, dashboards, and reports to communicate findings and recommendations to FAA leadership and stakeholders.
  • Support NextGen modernization initiatives, contributing to the development of advanced systems for the NAS.
  • Conduct financial and labor analyses to support staffing requirements, resource allocation, or bargaining unit negotiations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners to ensure data-driven decision-making across the FAA.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies, big data tools, and statistical methodologies relevant to aviation operations.
