Overview

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is looking for a Network Infrastructure Engineer to build Amazon Dedicated Cloud regions as part of our Infrastructure Operations team. The role involves scaling network systems to stay ahead of customer demand, driving stability and sustainability of next-generation networks, and developing ways to automate and scale our network. You will work in a dynamic environment to support several data center locations and assist with capacity management, collaborating with internal customers and external vendors to facilitate project execution as directed by Technical Program Managers.

Basic pay information is provided in the job post: $83,100.00/yr - $185,000.00/yr.

Key responsibilities

  • Clearly communicate project status and blockers to leadership and project management.
  • Perform device build and cabling validation activities.
  • Manage cabling vendor activities and perform quality assurance activities.
  • Support Network Engineering deployment activities during scheduled change management windows; participate in migration, basic configuration, and rollout of new or upgraded hardware.
  • Complete customer requests via Remedy trouble ticketing system.
  • Troubleshoot networking, routing, and inter-connectivity issues, including device configuration and low-level application interaction; deliver simple, sustainable, and repeatable solutions and processes.
  • Manage work and priorities through ticketing system and workflow; collaborate with stakeholders to remove project obstacles.
  • Travel within geographical area is required; up to 40% travel outside traditional work area may be required, possibly including international travel and work on small projects with ambiguous details.

Day in the life

A day in the life of a Network Design Engineer includes meetings, change management activities in the data centre, deploying hardware, connecting cabling, troubleshooting links, updating tickets, and collaborating with peers across AWS to innovate and improve processes for customers.

Basic Qualifications

  • Current, active US Government Security Clearance - TS/SCI with Polygraph.
  • Knowledge of network cabling, optic types, and test equipment (e.g., VFL, power meter, OTDR).
  • General understanding of data center infrastructure components and sub-components.
  • 3–5+ years of mid-level and/or enterprise experience as a technician or engineer; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, or JNCIA.
  • BS in Information Systems or Computer Science or relevant certifications.
  • Understanding of infrastructure technologies including routers and switches, and networking protocols (BGP, OSPF).
  • Knowledge of network cabling, optic types, and test equipment (e.g., VFL, power meter, OTDR).
  • General understanding of data center infrastructure components.

Pay reflects cost of labor across US geographic markets; base pay ranges from $83,100/year to $185,000/year, depending on location, knowledge, skills, and experience.
