Position Summary
Assist and support the licensed clinical care team by providing phlebotomy services in an ambulatory care environment. Responsible for specimen collection and handling duties in a medical office setting, utilizing the five (5) Simply Better steps with every patient and team interaction.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Meet the qualifications, education, and licensure required for all responsibilities.
- Excel in communication (written & verbal), customer service, and work independently or as part of a team.
- Prioritize, organize, and multitask with attention to detail and follow-through. Use critical thinking to identify issues, problem-solve, demonstrate initiative, and take responsibility.
- Ensure laboratory adherence to quality and safety protocols as established by the organization and regulatory agencies, escalating concerns as needed.
- Be punctual and adhere to company policies and procedures.
- Interact positively and constructively with patients and staff.
- Obtain venipunctures and capillary specimens based on provider orders and laboratory guidelines, including for diverse patient populations.
- Follow laboratory standard work, identify opportunities for continuous improvement, and adhere to Scope of Practice based on licensure.
- Ensure proper patient identification, correct specimen labeling, and immediate labeling in front of the patient.
- Maintain QC data/logs per regulatory and departmental guidelines.
- Promptly communicate and forward data to supervisors, complete logs by shift end.
- Obtain provider approval for non-standard tests, follow up on test inquiries, and notify physicians of critical values.
- Disinfect the laboratory daily, perform spot disinfection as needed, and maintain standards such as 5S.
- Provide coverage as a Medical Assistant if applicable.
- Report laboratory issues to supervisors and perform additional duties as assigned within scope.

Minimum Requirements
Qualifications/Work Experience
High School diploma or equivalent.
Certificate of Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) required.
Current BLS for Healthcare Providers from the American Heart Association required.
Certificate from an accredited Medical Assistant Program preferred.
Minimum of one (1) year of phlebotomy experience required; pediatric phlebotomy experience preferred.
