Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture and manage the pheresis process in compliance with SOPs to collect plasma, including donor setup, monitoring, and disconnect procedures.
  • Conduct all aspects of the pheresis procedure in accordance with SOPs and FDA guidelines; monitor donor safety and process efficiency to ensure a positive donor experience.
  • Evaluate donor vein performance, identify potential issues, and make adjustments to expedite donation and ensure product quality and donor safety.
  • Educate new donors on therapeutic plasma products when applicable, explaining the screening process, health tests, appointment system, fees, center policies, nutrition, and other pertinent information; answer donor questions promptly and accurately.
  • Monitor donors for reactions, assist as needed, and notify appropriate staff if adverse events occur.
  • Record incidents during the pheresis process using the designated device (PDA) and document machine alerts, volume variances, and donor adverse events.
  • Perform calibrations and verify maintenance per SOPs; respond to and resolve complex equipment alarms or donor issues; troubleshoot equipment failures as required.
  • Monitor donor flow on the floor to ensure continuous throughput and escalate donor flow issues to the Group Leader or Supervisor as needed.
  • Collect arm or whole blood samples from donors for testing and ensure accurate recording of donor data in the electronic donor information management system as outlined in SOPs.
  • Understand policies and procedures related to hyperimmune programs at the center, if applicable.
  • Maintain a clean, efficient work environment and ensure available operating supplies and forms; follow all Health Safety & Environmental (HSE) and OSHA policies and promote safety in all actions.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information.
  • May be cross-trained in other areas to support business needs; bilingual skills may be required at the organizations discretion.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum twelve (12) months of experience in a medical or health care environment preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • For Centers located in California: automated plasmapheresis professionals must be state-certified as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician I, or be a current Registered Nurse by the State of California.
