Overview
This is a contract job opportunity for a Phlebotomist (Job code CVDJP00032426). Location: Laguna Hills, CA and surrounding area. Schedule: 1st shift, generally 6 AM to 6 PM, Mon-Fri; may cover a Saturday shift. Shifts are 8 hours; depending on location, start and end times may vary. Summary
The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.
Position Responsibilities
- Experience performing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontamination, updating patient information, etc.
- Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures.
- Explain venipuncture process clearly and courteously. Collect other specimens as required (e.g., urine, stool).
- Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
- Understand all physician orders. Match requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required.
- Check test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure accuracy.
- Package specimens for transport; store specimens at required temperatures; label containers; follow protocol to maintain specimen integrity.
- Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
- Attend annual department trainings; answer inquiries about laboratory results as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment as required
- Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum 2 years of experience
