Location: Waukegan, IL and Chicago area suburbs (float position). Flexible for all locations under this supervisor.

Schedule: Mon, Tue, Thursday and Friday: 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM; Wednesday: 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM

Minimum 1 year of experience.

Phlebotomy on all types of patients; hard sticks and needles, urine, thyroid testing. Detail oriented with good experience. Computer skills; data entry and processing.

Phlebotomist will be responsible for blood draws and timed glucose tolerance testing. They will also be responsible for processing those specimens (plus, paps, cultures, urine specimens and those collected by the office staff) in our computer system. The phlebotomist will also be responsible for packaging up the specimens for pickup by the courier, as well as maintaining inventory of stock. High customer service is a must.

Responsibilities

  • Experience performing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc.
  • Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures.
  • Explain clearly the venipuncture process and other specimen collection procedures as required.
  • Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
  • Fully understand physicians' orders and match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
  • Check test requisitions against scripts to ensure accuracy.
  • Package specimens for transport; store specimens at required temperatures; label and transport according to protocol.
  • Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations; attend annual trainings; answer inquiries by telephone or in person.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment as required in some states.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting. (Original text also mentions minimum 6 months in related settings.)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
