Overview
Phlebotomy Technician – Edina, MN – Monday–Friday 8:00 AM–4:30 PM (Rotational Weekends).
The Phlebotomy Technician is responsible for accurately performing and processing, Point of Care Testing (POC), venous and capillary blood collection from adults, infants, and children and all related functions.
Responsibilities
- Collects blood and/or performs POC as assigned.
- Clean and restock POC supplies and prepare phlebotomy carts/trays.
- Assist coworkers with draws and POC testing.
- Draw venous or capillary blood from newborn through geriatric patients using proper aseptic techniques.
- Draw and deliver (where applicable) all blood work (stat, timed, routine) within established departmental policy time frames.
- Draw venous and capillary blood into proper tubes and culture vials.
- Perform and process all POC tests on patients ranging from newborn to geriatrics.
- Complete clerical functions associated with POC testing documents.
- Report incidents/issues regarding patients or employees timely to group leader or supervisor.
- Report supply needs and equipment defects in a timely fashion.
- Log refrigerator temperatures daily and report if temperatures fall out of range to group leader or supervisor.
- Travel and perform phlebotomy duties and POC testing at health fair and PSA testing sites and deliver specimens to laboratory as needed.
- Identify needs of the patient population served and modify/deliver care specific to those needs (age, culture, language, disabilities). Communicate with patient/parent/primary caregiver at appropriate developmental/educational levels.
- Adhere to the standards identified in the clinic’s organizational competencies.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Medical training: medical assistant or paramedic training preferred.
- Phlebotomy certification preferred. Required in California, Nevada, and Washington.
Physical Requirements
- Lift light to moderately heavy objects (1–40 pounds; assistance for >41 pounds).
- Must be able to sit or stand for long periods; requires prolonged eye and hand coordination.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks; travel required.
- Extensive use of phone and PC; fine dexterity with hands; balance, walking, bending/kneeling, reaching/twisting, etc.
Knowledge, Education And Skills
- Knowledge: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Education: Medical training preferred (medical assistant or paramedic).
- Skills: Phlebotomy certification preferred; required in CA, NV, and WA.
