Overview
The Patient Service Tech is responsible for accurately performing and processing, Point of Care Testing (POC), venous and capillary blood collection from adults, infants, and children and all related functions.

Base pay range: $23.00/hr - $28.00/hr
Responsibilities
- Collects blood and/or performs POC as assigned.
- Cleans and re-stocks POC supplies and prepares phlebotomy carts/trays.
- Assists coworkers with draws and POC testing.
- Draws venous or capillary blood from newborn through geriatric patients using proper aseptic collection techniques.
- Draws and delivers (where applicable) all blood work (stat, timed, routine) within established departmental policy time frames.
- Draws venous and capillary blood into proper tubes and culture vials according to the purpose for which the blood is to be tested.
- Performs and processes all POC tests on patients ranging from newborn to geriatrics.
- Completes clerical functions associated with POC testing documents.
- Reports incidents/issues regarding patients or employees timely to group leader or supervisor.
- Reports supply needs and equipment defects in a timely fashion.
- Logs refrigerator temperatures daily and reports if out of range to group leader or supervisor.
- Travels and performs phlebotomy duties and POC testing at health fairs and PSA testing sites and delivers specimens to laboratory as needed.
- Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.). This includes communicating with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level.
- Adheres to the standards identified in the clinic’s Organizational Competencies.

Physical Requirements
- Lift light to moderately heavy objects; regularly lift/carry objects 1–25 pounds; occasionally 26–40 pounds; never lift >41 pounds without assistance.
- Must be able to sit or stand for long periods; requires long hours of eye and hand coordination.
- Must be able to perform repetitive tasks with dominant hand frequently to constantly throughout the day.
- Position requires travel.
- Extensive use of phone and PC; fine dexterity; talking; walking; balancing; bending/kneeling; pushing/pulling; reaching/twisting.
Knowledge, Education And Skills Required
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Medical training: medical assistant or paramedic training preferred.
- Phlebotomy certification preferred. Required in California, Nevada, and Washington.
