Responsibilities
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician I: must meet the regulatory requirements of CA Codes (Business and Professions Code: 1246) and California Code of Regulations: 1034 or state regulatory certification requirements to work in the clinical laboratory.
- Perform skin puncture or venipuncture on patients of all ages to obtain blood specimens for analysis in the clinical laboratory under the supervision of Laboratory Director / Manager / Supervisor.
- Perform clerical duties including computer data entry, filing, telephone communication, and other tasks as assigned.
- Demonstrate knowledge of test terminology ordered in the laboratory and maintain professional communication with patients and visitors.
- Demonstrate proper phlebotomy technique and use of equipment for patients ranging from newborns to geriatric.
- Process specimens across microbiology, immunology, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, chemistry, and blood bank; include processing specimens for referral to reference laboratories.
- Stock routine supplies and maintain cleanliness of storage areas, trays, centrifuges, refrigerators, freezers, and work areas.
- Process or load specimens on automated laboratory instrumentation in accordance with policy and procedures.
- May assist with sample pickup from hospital/OR, sorting samples for analysis, inventory, replenishing supplies, and related tasks as assigned by department management.
Qualifications
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING
- High School Diploma, or equivalent, required.
- Current and valid state certification as a CPT I, required.
- BLS certification within 45 days of hire and maintained current, required.
- Minimum of one (1) year of clinical laboratory experience, preferred.

Benefits may vary based on collective bargaining agreement requirements and/or the employment status (full-time or part-time). The current compensation range for this role is $21.00 to $24.87. The exact starting compensation to be offered will be determined at the time of hire, considering factors such as skillset, years of applicable experience, education, credentials and licensure.
