Overview

• Department: Laboratory
• Schedule: 4 am - 12:30 pm, 4:30 am - 1 pm, and/or 5 am - 1:30 pm depending on the needs of the department, every other weekend and rotating holidays.
• Facility: Prime Healthcare St Joseph Hospital
• Location: Joliet, IL 60435

Responsibilities

• Primarily perform skin puncture or venipuncture on patients of all ages for the purpose of obtaining a blood specimen for analysis in the clinical laboratory, under the supervision of Laboratory Director / Manager / Supervisor.
• Perform computer data entry, filing, telephone communication and other clerical duties.
• Demonstrate knowledge of laboratory test terminology and demonstrate good communication skills and telephone etiquette when greeting patients and visitors.
• Demonstrate proper phlebotomy technique and use of equipment across age groups from newborns to geriatric patients.
• Process microbiology, immunology, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, chemistry, and blood bank specimens.
• Process specimens for referral to reference laboratories.
• Stock and order routine supplies; maintain cleanliness of storage areas and work areas.
• Process or load specimens on automated laboratory instrumentation in accordance with policy and procedures.
• May assist with pickup of samples, sorting of samples for analysis, inventory, and related duties; may assist pathology, and perform mail/delivery tasks as assigned.
• May work across multiple departments or night/graveyard shifts.
• May perform point-of-care testing after training and documented competency.
• Other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned by the department manager/director.

Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

• High School Diploma, or equivalent, required.
• Current and valid state certification as a CPT preferred.
• BLS certification within 45 days of hire and maintained current, according to hospital requirement.
• Minimum of two (2) years of clinical laboratory experience, required.

Pay Transparency

Saint Joseph Medical Center - Joliet offers competitive compensation and a comprehensive benefits package. A reasonable compensation estimate for this role ranges from $16.80 to $24.33 per hour. The exact starting compensation will be determined at the time of hire based on factors including skillset, experience, education, credentials, and licensure.
