As a Phlebotomy Lab Technician, you will collect blood samples from patients in an outpatient setting, package them for transport, and deliver them to the appropriate location. You will help put patients at ease while obtaining all required specimens.

A caregiver in this position works days from 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM, with Saturday coverage requirements.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood collection procedures and related tasks.
• Verify order requests and identifying information prior to drawing blood or collecting the specimen/kit to be tested by analytical staff.
• Label all specimens collected and deliver them to the appropriate processing area.
• Follow venipuncture procedures and maintain appropriate log sheets.
• Greet patients warmly and professionally at check-in, when they present to outpatient lab desks, or when entering a patient’s room.
• Complete test request entry and specimen receipt using lab computer.
• Perform specimen processing and send-out tasks, including accessioning, centrifugation, and packaging for transport, for all specimen types.
• Communicate essential information to appropriate personnel.
• Pick up and deliver blood, other sample types, and lab supplies to appropriate areas.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• Graduate of Phlebotomy Program OR one year of specimen collection experience
• Computer experience

Preferred qualifications

• Formal Phlebotomy certification
• One year experience with specimen collection and laboratory techniques and procedures

Additional Details

• Physical Requirements: Requires frequent and long durations of standing and walking; visual acuity including the ability to distinguish colors; manual dexterity to manipulate blood drawing equipment and make measurements.
