Certified Phlebotomy Technician CPT I - Clinical Lab

Overview

Department: Laboratory

Schedule: 8-hour shifts, 7:45 am - 4:45 pm, alternating 3 shifts one week and 2 shifts the following week, every other weekend and rotating holidays.

Facility: Healing Arts Pavilion

Location: Plainfield, IL 60586

Responsibilities

• Performs skin puncture or venipuncture on patients of all ages for the purpose of obtaining a blood specimen for analysis in the clinical laboratory under supervision of Laboratory Director / Manager / Supervisor.
• Performs computer data entry, filing, telephone communication and other clerical duties as needed.
• Maintains knowledge of test terminology ordered in the laboratory and demonstrates good communication and telephone etiquette when greeting patients and visitors.
• Demonstrates proper phlebotomy technique and use of equipment for collecting specimens from newborns to geriatric patients.
• Processes specimens in microbiology, immunology, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, chemistry and blood bank; processes specimens for referral to reference laboratories.
• Stocks routine supplies and maintains cleanliness of storage areas, trays, centrifuges, refrigerators, freezers and work areas.
• Processes or loads specimens on automated laboratory instrumentation in accordance with established policies and procedures.
• May assist with sample pickup at hospital/OR, sorting samples for analysis, returning samples, inventory, replenishing supplies, ordering supplies, mail/delivery, faxing, answering phones, and other related tasks as assigned by department leadership.
• Other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned by the department manager/director.

Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

• High School Diploma, or equivalent, required.
• Current and valid state certification preferred.
• BLS certification within 45 days of hire and maintained current, according to hospital requirement.
• Minimum of one (1) year of clinical laboratory experience, preferred.

A reasonable compensation estimate for this role, which includes estimated wages, benefits, and other forms of compensation, is $16.00 to $23.17. The exact starting compensation to be offered will be determined at the time of selecting an applicant for hire, in which a wide range of factors will be considered, including but not limited to, skillset, years of applicable experience, education, credentials and licensure.
