Overview
Exciting career opportunity for a UPS Battery Technician to join one of the region’s fastest growing companies.
- Site Point of Contact (POC) and Subject Matter Expert for UPS systems and batteries. Includes scheduling and executing Preventative and Predictive Maintenance, Corrective Maintenance, and Warranty work.
- Inspects power electronic systems and their controls, including UPS systems, static transfer switches, and related components. Inspections encompass Initial, In-Process, Visual Condition, Final Inspections, Maintenance Operational Checks, and Failure Analysis.
- Certifies systems and components adhere to quality standards per applicable codes, publications, checklists, and specifications.
- Reviews system drawings and specifications for accuracy, completeness, and compliance. Resolves discrepancies through research or physical inspection, and certifies changes.
- Provides technical assistance on power electronic devices to clients and engineers. Participates in inspections, maintenance, training, and advises site personnel on maintenance practices. Logs work in Maximo and recommends system improvements.
- Organizes resources and assists Battery Technicians in maintenance, installation, and inspection of Vented Wet Cell and VRLA batteries.
- Inspects battery charging and monitoring equipment for proper operation.
- Maintains records of battery operations and recommends maintenance or replacements based on findings.
- Occasionally, employees may be assigned joint duties for training or emergency response.
Examples of Battery Duties include maintaining, inspecting, installing, and cleaning batteries and terminals; taking voltage, resistance, and specific gravity readings; recharging and replacing batteries; installing inter-cell straps; performing discharge tests; and training Battery Technicians.

Responsibilities
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Associate's Degree in Electronics or related field, or High School Diploma/GED + 2 years UPS maintenance experience.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical instructions, plans, blueprints, and schematics.
- Knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, maintenance practices, procedures, and quality control.
- Use of laptops, software, and electronic communication devices.
- Ability to evaluate electrical systems, perform damage assessments, estimate requirements, diagnose malfunctions, and employ testing techniques.
Desired Skills:
- AA/BS in Electrical/Electronics, Journeyman Electrical license, OEM or Military training, or equivalent.
- Future training in Manufacturer Maintenance Courses and Power Quality Certification.
Qualifications
Abilities:
- Lifts at least 100 pounds; can work at heights up to 60 feet; can climb ladders, scaffolds, and lifts.
- Physically capable of walking, climbing, lifting, and reaching routinely.
- Good vision (corrected if necessary), color vision, and communication skills.
- Recognizes problems or potential issues, applies general rules to solve problems, and interprets details and relationships.
