Overview
Exciting career opportunity for a UPS Battery Technician to join one of the region’s fastest growing companies.
- Site Point of Contact (POC) and Subject Matter Expert for UPS systems and batteries. Responsible for scheduling and executing Preventative and Predictive Maintenance, Corrective Maintenance, and Warranty work.
- Inspects power electronic systems and their controls, including UPS systems, static transfer switches, and related components. Inspections encompass initial, in-process, visual, and final inspections, maintenance checks, and failure analysis.
- Certifies that systems and components comply with quality standards per applicable codes, publications, checklists, and specifications.
- Reviews system drawings and specifications for accuracy and completeness. Determines maintenance and inspection requirements and ensures compliance with technical standards. Resolves discrepancies through research or physical inspection and updates records accordingly.
- Provides technical support and expertise on power electronic devices to clients and engineers. Participates in inspections, maintenance, and training of site personnel. Advises on maintenance practices and reviews technical publications. Logs work in Maximo and recommends system improvements.
- Organizes resources and supports Battery Technicians in the maintenance, installation, and inspection of Vented Wet Cell and VRLA batteries and related components.
- Inspects battery charging and monitoring equipment to ensure proper operation.
- Maintains records of battery operation and service.
- Recommends maintenance or replacement of batteries based on preventive findings.
- Assists in training and emergency response as needed.
Examples of Battery Duties include maintaining, inspecting, installing, cleaning batteries, taking voltage and specific gravity readings, recharging, replacing batteries, installing inter-cell straps, performing discharge tests, and keeping service logs.
- Operates instruments such as digital multimeters, power analyzers, infrared cameras, insulation testers, EMI/EMF meters, battery test equipment, and oscilloscopes.
Responsibilities
Job Requirements:
- Associate's Degree in Electronics or related field, or High School Diploma/GED with 2 years of UPS maintenance experience.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
- Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
- Proficiency in reading technical instructions, plans, blueprints, and schematics.
- Knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, maintenance practices, procedures, and quality control.
- Experience with laptops, software, and electronic communication devices.
- Ability to evaluate electrical systems, perform damage assessments, diagnose malfunctions, and employ testing techniques.
Desired Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronics or Journeyman Electrical license with relevant experience, or OEM/Military training.
- Future training in manufacturer maintenance courses and power quality certification.
Qualifications
Abilities:
- Lift at least 100 pounds and 60 pounds for extended periods.
- Relocate a 12-foot ladder unaided.
- Work at heights up to 60 feet, climbing and balancing on scaffolds, lifts, and ladders.
- Perform physical activities including walking, climbing, lifting, squatting, crawling, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and reaching.
- Good vision (corrected if necessary), color vision, hearing, and communication in English.
- Use standard ladders with tools without exceeding weight limits.
- Recognize problems or potential issues.
- Apply rules to specific problems to produce logical solutions.
