The City of Aspen is seeking to fill two seasonal Nordic Trails Groomer positions within our Parks and Open Space Department.

Job Title: Nordic Trails Groomer

Department: Parks and Open Space

Classification: Non-Exempt, Seasonal

Pay Range: $30.99/hour - $37.29/hour

Location: Aspen, Colorado

Position Type and Work Hours: Two seasonal Nordic Trails Groomer positions available. Position I: Seasonal, 40-hour work week, 8:00am-4:00pm from November 1 to December 7, then 4:00pm-midnight from December 8 to March 31. Hours vary with workload and additional hours may be required. Position II: Seasonal, weekends only, Saturdays and Sundays, 6:00am-4:30pm from November 15 to March 31. Hours vary with workload, weather conditions, and operational needs.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in daily maintenance of Nordic trails and grooming equipment, operating a variety of medium and heavy machines (e.g., snowmobiles, snow cats, tractors, trucks, trailers) and other grooming equipment safely.
  • Perform daily inspections of equipment for safety factors such as fluid levels and tire pressure.
  • Update and maintain Nordic trail information for users (on the Nordic website).
  • Assist with miscellaneous duties (shoveling snow, trash, litter pickup, fence and trail signage repairs, etc.).
  • Set up in the fall and teardown in the spring of Nordic trail infrastructure.
  • Maintain a safe and efficient work environment in accordance with City safety policies.
  • Uphold City organizational values (Service, Partnership, Stewardship, Innovation) in daily work.

Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Experience: Two seasons of Nordic trail maintenance or snow grooming preferred.
  • Technical Knowledge: Proficiency with Slack and Outlook.
  • Licenses & Certifications: Valid Colorado driver’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of start date.
  • Notes: Any combination of experience and education that provides the required abilities may be substituted for the requirements above. A drug test and physical examination on hire, and a criminal background check, are required. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of these checks.

Working Environment and Physical Demands

  • Outdoors: Work is performed outdoors with exposure to varying weather; may involve snow removal with hand tools and exposure to cold, heat, exhaust, fumes, and other environmental factors.
  • Off-Site: Meetings, trainings, and site visits at various city facilities.
  • Physical Requirements: Visual acuity, balance, bending, standing, walking, lifting up to 50 lbs, and other listed physical abilities; ability to ski for trail inspection; capable of operating Nordic grooming equipment; ability to perform repetitive motions and use safety-sensitive equipment as required.
