Job Description
Public Works Heavy Equipment Operator
Summary: Under direct supervision of the Assistant Public Works Director followed by the Public Works Supervisor the Heavy Equipment Operator is available to complete task in regard to general construction, repair, and maintenance of City infrastructure, City Buildings and equipment.
FSLA Status: Non-Exempt
Supervision Received and Exercised:
- Works under general supervision of the Public Works Director
- Works under direct supervision of the Assistant Public Works Director followed by the Public Works Supervisor.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Completes task as directed by the Assistant Public Works Director to include, but not limited to:
- Water line repairs
- Street repairs
- Lift station/ sewer line repairs
- Snow plowing
- Tree trimming
- Vehicle maintenance
- Reading water meters
- Operate City owned equipment
- Assist other departments as requested.
- Availability during non-scheduled work hours as required.
- Perform other tasks and duties as assigned by the Assistant Public Works Director or Public works Supervisor.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Requirements:
- Valid State of Missouri Class “B” driver’s license and good driving record, with a DOT tanker endorsement.
- Be proficient in the operation of all City equipment as assessed by the Public Works Director, Assistant Public Works Director, And Public Works Supervisor.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with elected officials, appointed officials, other staff, and members of the public.
- Skills in handling public contact in a pleasant and professional manner.
- Skills in judging hazardous working environments and safe work practices.
