Overview

Heavy Equipment Operator role at Tulane University. Operation of and supervisory responsibility on projects involving the use of heavy equipment, specialized skills or other equipment operators. Primary responsibility is to support the various activities of the grounds division. This is an Essential Personnel position which can require that the incumbent must report for duty and work through emergencies, and can be designated by the supervisor as essential for the accomplishment of work, or for the completion of a critical task.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment and supervise projects involving the use of heavy equipment, specialized skills, or other equipment operators, to support the activities of the grounds division.

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

• Ability to safely handle loads of 45 pounds
• Ability to work cooperatively with others of diverse personalities, education, and cultural backgrounds
• Ability to comprehend and relay orders and specifications of the supervisor
• Ability to report to work on time and work overtime as needed
• Willingness to participate in safety training or disaster programs
• Position may require late evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday working hours. May be required to work overtime

Required Education And/Or Experience

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Two years' experience operating heavy equipment
• Must have a valid and unrestricted (not including corrective lens needs) U.S. Chauffeur (Class D) Driver License and must meet Tulane University Motor Vehicle Policy criteria to become authorized as a driver

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in the field of horticulture maintenance
