Overview
Equipment Operator-Heavy at IEA Constructors LLC, a MasTec Company. Responsible for operating various types of heavy equipment to perform construction tasks on heavy civil, industrial, and wind projects.
Position Summary
Operate heavy equipment including front end loaders (4CY or greater), motor grader, excavator (20 ton class or larger), dozer, scraper, tractor – pan, track hoe, skid steer, trencher, and applicable light and medium equipment to perform land clearing, common/mass excavation, pond/reservoir excavation, rough grade/finish grade roadway, and underground utility work.
Responsibilities
- Promote and comply with all Company and safety policies and procedures
- Operate heavy equipment with knowledge of functions, operation, diagnosing problems, mechanical aptitude, and driving
- Build level and/or extreme terrain and excavate land surfaces as required
- Drive and maneuver equipment with blades to remove topsoil, vegetation, rocks, and to distribute and level earth
- Load dirt, stone, equipment, materials, and waste onto trucks
- Excavate trenches with proper slopes per OSHA requirements
- Coordinate machine actions with other activities and respond to signals from crew members
- Communicate clearly to ensure understanding of duties, safety regulations, and other situations
- Perform maintenance such as cleaning, greasing, oiling, and daily maintenance reporting
- Travel to different jobsites as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned by Superintendent or Foreman
Qualifications
Education and Work Experience
- 1-3 years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum 1 year of experience in heavy equipment operation
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of MIC Health and Safety programs and project regulations
- Participation in daily toolbox meetings on-site
- Safe work behaviors and ability to read and interpret safety rules and manuals
- Basic math skills for weight, measurement, and volume calculations
- Ability to carry out written or oral instructions and follow procedures
- Ability to work with precision and adhere to standards
- Other duties as assigned
Physical Demands
- Work up to 12-hour shifts in varying temperatures and outdoor conditions
- Maintain physical strength and stamina; lift up to 50 pounds; work with arms, hands, and legs as required
- Work in exposed conditions, potentially at heights, with fall protection and PPE as required
- Move in and around confined, cluttered, and uneven areas; engage in repetitive tasks
- Visual and auditory requirements and coordination of eyes, hands, and feet
Compensation and Benefits
- Compensation: $28.00-$31.50 hourly, commensurate with experience
