Position Summary
Responsible for operating various types of heavy equipment, including but not limited to front end loaders (4CY or greater), motor grader, excavator (20 ton class or larger), dozer, scraper, tractor-trailer/rock, track hoe, skid steer, PD-10, trencher, and applicable light and medium equipment to perform construction tasks such as land clearing, common/mass excavation, pond/reservoir excavation, rough grade/finish grade roadway, underground utility work for various heavy civil, industrial, and wind projects.
Responsibilities
- Promote and comply with all Company and safety policies and procedures
- Operate heavy equipment with knowledge of functions, operation, navigation, problem detection, mechanical aptitude, and driving
- Build level and/or extreme terrain and excavate land surfaces using listed equipment
- Drive and maneuver equipment with blades to remove topsoil, vegetation, rocks and to distribute and level earth or terrain
- Load dirt, stone, equipment, materials, and waste onto trucks from the jobsite
- Excavate trenches with proper slopes per OSHA requirements
- Coordinate machine actions with other activities, responding to signals from crew members
- Communicate clearly to ensure comprehension of duties and safety regulations
- Perform maintenance such as cleaning, greasing and oiling machines; fill out maintenance reports daily
- May travel to different jobsites on short notice
- May perform other duties as required by Superintendent or Foreman
Qualifications
Education and Work Experience Requirements:
- 1-3 years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum 1 year of experience in heavy equipment operation
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- Knowledge of health and safety programs and project regulations
- Participate in daily toolbox meetings on site
- Model safe behavior
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules and operating/maintenance instructions
- Numerical skills for simple arithmetic with units of weight and volume
- Ability to follow written or oral instructions with precision
- Willingness to perform other duties as assigned
Physical Demands
- Work up to a 12-hour shift in varying temperatures and outdoor conditions
- Maintain physical strength and stamina; lift up to 50 pounds; frequent bending, kneeling, and climbing
- Stamina for repetitive, long-duration tasks
- Exposure to extreme weather, dirt, dust, fumes, and loud noises
- Ability to wear required PPE (safety-toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hat, vest, etc.)
- Move in and around confined, cluttered, uneven areas; work at heights with fall protection as required
- Good visual and aural perception; coordination of eyes, hands, and feet
Hours
This position is full-time and typically scheduled for 50 hours per week. Schedule is subject to project requirements.
Travel
Travel up to 90% required. Presence directly on the project site with intermittent travel to residence of record.
