Overview
PLEASE NOTE: TCCE hires field construction staff to work at jobs in the region (primarily Maryland, DC, Northern Virginia): job locations will change as needed. Job Description: Senior Heavy Equipment Operator operates a variety of contractor equipment used in construction activities including, but not limited to bulldozers, cranes, excavators, loaders, rubber-tire equipment, etc. The following are duties of the position:
Responsibilities
- Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or repairs to the supervisor; cleans equipment; verifies equipment is in safe working order, is properly fueled, and is capable for performing the assigned task (weight capacity, etc.).
- Performs minor repairs and preventive maintenance (filling fluids, adding lubricants, etc.).
- Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate job site and company safety and security standards to prevent property damage and injuries.
- Follows laws and prevents traffic disruption.
- Operates large size excavator, dozer, track and rubber tire loaders, rollers, and other related equipment to perform road work, earth moving, excavation, etc.
- Operates the equipment in conjunction with electronic or other technical means, as appropriate.
- Works with and assists crew in digging ditches and trenches, pipe laying, (un)loading materials, hoisting material, tools, equipment, and any related work.
- Provides support to successful completion of construction and engineering work (road work, excavation work, materials movement, etc.).
- Responds to signals and directions by the staff and work in coordination with them.
- Involved in rigging processes.
- Performs work safely.
- Maintains equipment or production records, as directed.
Skills Required
- Able to work nights and weekends.
- Able to operate a variety of heavy and power-driven equipment, including front loader, bulldozers, backhoes, excavators, as well as mount and dismount, and help labor and pipe crews.
- Able to handle excavations up to 20 feet in depth.
- Able to use GPS or other computer software to utilize equipment and perform essential job functions.
- Able to communicate effectively both written and verbally with others and work cooperatively in teams (including resolving basic conflicts with or without management assistance).
- Able to perform detailed work, to solve problems, and make effective decisions to maintain production, quality and safety under pressure and deadlines.
- Able to handle emergency situations, work pressure and stress.
- Withstand strenuous and dangerous work environment (uses safe work techniques).
- Able to work with minimal supervision.
Physical Capabilities & Other Requirements
- Able to lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds.
- Able to walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and smell.
- Able to work near moving mechanical parts; be exposed to vibration, wet or humid conditions, heat, and various forms of inclement weather; and be exposed to loud noise.
- Able to work in high, precarious places or in excavations.
- Able to be exposed on work site to fumes or particulates, chemicals, or electricity.
- Able to pass drug test.
Other
- This position requires travel to construction sites to perform work.
