About This Position
The position operates heavy equipment as part of the Interstate Statewide Sign Maintenance functions, including the installation, maintenance, and repair of signs on Interstate, LA and US routes. The incumbent should have knowledge of signage for construction and maintenance and some computer knowledge to assist the foreman when necessary. Equipment includes digger trucks, platform trucks, forklifts, frontend loaders, dump trucks, backhoes and bobcats. The incumbent may perform minor repairs and maintenance on equipment and vehicles used for this task. DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules, regulations, and DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.

Minimum Qualifications
- Three years of experience in mobile equipment operations.
Job Duties
- Operates heavy equipment for the installation, maintenance and repair of signs and supports on Interstate and US routes statewide. Equipment includes crane/dragline (truck or track mounted) with lifting capacity >= 40,000 pounds and a truck-mounted Statewide Crew platform. The crane lifts beams, signs, trusses, cantilevers and bores holes up to 36" in diameter for foundations. The platform lifts employees up to 75 feet for overhead work.
- Operate Crane and Platform together as needed; operate other district equipment (forklifts, frontend loaders, dump trucks, backhoes, bobcats); remove damaged signs and supports and locate inventory for interstate signs.
- Assist the Foreman in inspecting damaged signs and determining material needs; support construction sign inspection when necessary; ensure equipment has necessary supplies.
- Help erect traffic control devices (cones, work zone signing) and be on 24-hour call for emergencies. Assume supervisory responsibilities when the Foreman is absent.
- Operate handheld tools (impact wrenches, drills, air rivet guns, etc.) to mount or repair signs or supports.
