The overall function of this position is to perform a broad range of construction and maintenance tasks using various pieces of specialized heavy and other numerated mobile equipment needed to accomplish the work task of the Department. The position is located in the statewide section 42, Gang 006 of DOTD and reports directly to a Maintenance Highway Foreman 2.
The incumbent must be self-motivated and able to perform duties with or without supervision and interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. Work is generally performed outdoors in various weather and terrain conditions according to the nature of the job assignment. The incumbent may need to bend, lift or climb.
The incumbent will participate in DOTD structured training programs, factory and ANSI approved training, and attend continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks. The incumbent is required to have experience operating large, complex pieces of equipment and must possess a Class A CDL with tanker endorsement. This position is safety sensitive and requires random drug testing. Incumbent is required to travel statewide.
While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.

Job Duties
- Operates a variety of heavy, specialized equipment used by the department to accomplish transportation, maintenance and construction tasks in a safe and efficient manner.
- Conducts routine visual/physical safety inspections of equipment before operation; reports problems to supervisor or appropriate personnel and takes corrective action as needed. Performs routine maintenance and minor repairs to equipment to keep it in good, safe condition. Prepares any necessary paperwork for equipment as directed.
- Occasionally performs field repairs or moves equipment to a new location or shop for additional repairs.
- Performs other duties as directed to accomplish the department\u2019s transportation, maintenance and construction tasks on a statewide basis. Attends required training per the Department\u2019s Structured Training Program and manufacturer\u2019s training requirements. Performs routine maintenance such as changing oil and replacing brushes. Cleans and inspects assigned equipment daily. Obtains/maintains CDL and reports CDL revocations as required by the Department\u2019s CDL policy.
Qualifications
- Two years of experience in mobile equipment operations.
- Must possess a Class A CDL with tanker endorsement.
- This position is safety sensitive and requires random drug testing. Travel statewide.
