Job Description

    Req#: 3958197 The primary purpose of this position is to operate a excavator, gradall, loaders, skid steer and dump trucks, etc. with Lee County in our canals division maintaining Lee County Canals and ROW. Work is performed under the general direction of a Crew Supervisor who reports to the Maintenance Supervisor, Canals.
    • Major cleaning of all ROW and canal areas, grinding overgrown vegetation and trees along canal banks. Responsible for grading and lazering of canals.
    • Operation of a Dump Truck, Gradall, Loader, Skid Steer and hauling equipment with a lowboy. Operate hand and power tools such as chainsaws, pole saws and weed eaters.
    • Work on weirs when needed.
    • Assist with laying out job plans.
    • Acts as a flagging person when needed.
    • Will report any deficiencies on ROW and Canals to crew supervisor or maintenance supervisor so proper repairs can be made.
    • May work with a crew or independently.
    • Must be able to fill in, in the absence of the lead operator and document daily activities into Cartegraph System, direct crews and report to the project manager or supervisor.
    • May assist other crews within the department on an as needed basis.
    • Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to High School graduation or GED equivalent and one year heavy equipment operation or closely related experience.
    • Possession of a valid Class A driver's license with air brakes and an acceptable driving record is required.
    • This is a safety-sensitive position, which is subject to Drug & Alcohol Workplace testing as provided in DOT regulation 49CFR-parts 40 and /or 655.
    • Ability to shoot grades and elevations or the ability to learn.
    • Knowledge of traffic regulations and the skills to set up a safe work zone using Intermediate Maintenance of Traffic guidelines.
    • The work days and hours for this position are Tuesday - Friday 7:00am - 5:30am.
