Job Description
The Emulation Hardware Support Engineer is part of the Technical Operations Hardware team which leads the Hardware Support Process to achieve operational excellence in the Siemens EDA emulation product line installed base. The Hardware Support Engineer supports the emulation of products from installation to service retirement and will actively engage with customers to install, diagnose, and repair hardware while providing related support services. A major objective is to fulfill our customers’ requirements by maintaining system uptime, quickly resolving hardware issues, and improving system reliability using all available resources. The role collaborates with Operations, Quality, Research and Development, Sales and Application Engineering teams in a global environment. Our leading-edge technology requires a broad spectrum of electrical test and software engineering skills.
The Hardware Support Engineer's overall responsibility is to ensure the technical functionality of products throughout their life cycle. This includes managing material dispositions of faulty hardware, maintaining spare component inventories, updating systems to ensure accurate and timely data, and communicating with other Siemens EDA teams. The role also supports Operations by collecting reports and data to help maintain a global monitoring system.
As part of the install function, the Hardware Support Engineer will perform a site survey at the customer site to ensure electrical and environmental conditions are met prior to hardware arrival. Upon arrival, responsibilities include unboxing, moving, and assembling the hardware stack, loading software, and performing basic initial checkout testing.
For service calls, the HSE may be onsite at a customer location or at a home/Siemens office and may travel to customer sites on a regular basis. The HSE may also perform basic IT systems administration from time to time.
Responsibilities
- Install, diagnose, repair, and support hardware for Siemens EDA emulation product lines from installation through service retirement.
- Engage with customers to install hardware, diagnose issues, and provide related support services.
- Maintain system uptime and reliability by quickly resolving hardware issues and utilizing available resources.
- Collaborate with Operations, Quality, R&D, Sales and Application Engineering in a global environment.
- Manage material dispositions for faulty hardware and maintain spare component inventories.
- Update systems to ensure accurate and timely data; contribute to a global monitoring system.
- Perform site surveys to verify electrical/environmental conditions prior to hardware arrival; handle unboxing, movement, assembly, software loading, and initial testing.
- Occasional IT systems administration as needed; travel to customer sites on short notice.
Qualifications
- Bachelors in electronic or software engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Experience in troubleshooting and repair of complex electronics hardware.
- Experience with Linux and Microsoft Windows.
- Experience with high-speed serial data technology and systems.
- Strong technical communication, analytical problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to follow technical directions in writing and verbally.
- Experience handling electronics parts with proper grounding procedures.
- Experience working directly with customers.
- Knowledge of server and network technology (highly desired).
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel on short notice.
- Ability to work in remote customer locations while coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams.
- Physical ability to move 50 to 70 pounds and work on your feet for long periods in a lab/datacenter environment; be able to reach and work in awkward positions when attaching cables and boards.

The salary range for this position is $87,600 to $157,700 and is eligible for incentive compensation. Compensation depends on location, experience, skills, and training. Benefits details are provided separately; time off is available in accordance with company policies.
