Your Role And Responsibilities
As a Developer at IBM, you’ll work on systems driving the quantum revolution and the AI era. Join our team of creators who move IBM forward through imagination, curiosity, and skills to help customers make better decisions with trusted platforms.

IBM has openings for Hardware Development Engineers to develop, test, and support hardware, firmware, and semiconductors in IBM products. Our team pioneers innovations in microprocessors and hardware used in IBM ZSystems, Power Systems, Storage, and Quantum Systems. Responsibilities include:

  • Logic design and verification, physical and analog/IO design
  • Electronic design automation
  • Signal and power integrity analysis
  • Microelectronics packaging
  • Materials analysis and characterization
  • Mechanical design and modeling
  • Circuit and electrical design
  • Printed circuit board layout
  • Thermal design and testing
  • Voltage regulation and power delivery
  • Performance modeling
  • Processor/system testing and validation
  • Customer and field support
  • Firmware architecture, development, and failure analysis
  • Product quality assurance and analytics

Preferred candidates have at least three months of experience in hardware design or manufacturing, with knowledge of computer hardware/architecture (FPGAs, RISC-V, ARM, MIPS), programming (C/C++/C#, Python, Java), hardware description languages (VHDL/Verilog), and circuit simulation tools (SPICE).

Education
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Optics Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related fields.

Requirements
Experience in hardware or testing projects/internships, strong communication skills, passion for technology, and a growth mindset.

Preferred Skills
Proficiency in microprocessor/ASIC design (VHDL, Verilog, SPICE), computer architecture, programming, scripting, CAD tools, and familiarity with hardware architectures like FPGA, MIPS, RISC-V, ARM, x86, Arduino, Quantum systems.
