HR Specialist role at Valero. Valero is a leading producer of fuels and products, employing about 10,000 people. This position supports day-to-day HR activities across recruiting, payroll, benefits, employee relations, performance, and development as assigned by management.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as initial point of contact for employee relations matters including training, employment, labor relations, payroll, compensation and benefits.
  • Provide guidance to management and employees on complex HR-related concerns; coordinate with other departments and refer complex issues to higher levels as needed.
  • Participate in employee investigations and assist with recommendations on resolutions.
  • Initiate and complete processing of employment actions (employment, terminations, transfers, promotions).
  • Research and forward employee information to Compensation for salary recommendations as needed.
  • Fulfill hiring needs and lead recruitment initiatives and programs; establish and implement college recruitment activities at designated universities.
  • Extend and negotiate offers of employment; coordinate onboarding of new hires.
  • Assist with the termination process to ensure legal obligations are met.
  • Coordinate administration of employee benefits with external providers; answer participant questions and resolve routine benefit issues.
  • Prepare and communicate information to participants regarding benefit programs, procedures, and changes; ensure compliance.
  • Coordinate payroll administration with external provider; review payroll for compliance with government regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with labor regulations; assist with special projects and department functions; assist lower level HR/support staff as needed.
  • Design and run monthly HR reports as needed.

Qualifications

  • Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero Houston Refinery, required.
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 5+ years of professional-level Human Resources experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in Human Resources, Business, or related area
  • Experience with SAP
