HR Specialist - 25001CY

Role Summary

Valero seeks a qualified HR Specialist to support day-to-day HR activities across recruiting, payroll, medical leave/absences, health & wellness benefits, employee relations, performance, and development as assigned by management.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as initial point of contact for employee relations matters; training, employment, labor relations, payroll, compensation and benefits.
  • Provides guidance to management and employees on complex HR-related concerns, coordinates with other departments as needed, and refers complex issue to higher levels.
  • Participates in employee investigations and assists with providing recommendations on resolutions.
  • Initiates and completes processing of all duties involved in employment, terminations, transfers, and promotions of personnel.
  • Researches and sends employee information to Compensation when requesting salary recommendations.
  • Fulfills the hiring needs of the organization and leads recruitment initiatives and programs as necessary.
  • Establishes and implements college recruitment activities and programs at designated universities.
  • Extends and negotiates offers of employment.
  • Coordinates the onboarding of all new hires.
  • Assists with the termination process to ensure legal obligations are met.
  • Coordinates the administration of employee benefits programs with external providers and answers participants benefit questions and resolves mostly routine issues related to their benefits.
  • Prepares and communicates information to participants concerning benefit programs, procedures, and changes and ensures compliance.
  • Coordinates the administration of payroll with external provider; Reviews payroll and ensures compliance with government agencies.
  • Ensures compliance with labor regulations.
  • Assists with special projects and functions of the department.
  • Assists lower level HR/Support staff as needed.
  • Designs and runs monthly reports as needed.

Qualifications

  • Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero Houston Refinery, required.
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 5+ years of experience in the following area(s):
    • professional-level Human Resources experience

Preferred Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or higher level degree - in Human Resources, Business, or related area
  • Experience with SAP
