Overview
Our client is seeking a HR Specialist that will play a critical role within the Human Resources team, with a strong focus on multi-state leave of absence management and compliance. This position serves as the primary point of contact for employees and managers throughout the leave process, ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local laws, as well as company policies.
In addition, the HR Specialist will contribute to employee engagement, orientation, and process improvement initiatives, helping to foster a positive workplace culture while driving efficiency in HR operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Multi-State Leave Management: Administer, track, and report on all types of employee leaves (FMLA, ADA, workers’ comp, short/long-term disability, parental leave, personal leave, etc.). Partner with third-party administrators, payroll, and HRBPs to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Employee Support & Engagement: Manage orientation programs, engagement initiatives, new hire and exit surveys, and team-building activities. Provide ongoing employee guidance throughout leave and HR processes.
- Cross-Functional Support: Assist with onboarding, I-9 compliance, background checks, HRIS integration, security badge access, and training initiatives. Provide backup support to HRBPs in employee relations and administrative tasks.
- Compliance & Reporting: Support audits, ensure proper documentation, provide reporting and analysis of leave trends, and identify process improvement opportunities across HR functions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; PHR or SHRM-CP preferred.
- 3+ years in an HR support role; 1+ years of leave management experience strongly preferred.
- Broad HR knowledge (recruitment, employee relations, compliance).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (especially Excel); quick learner of HRIS and payroll systems.
- Ability to build strong relationships and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Highly organized, adaptable, and detail-oriented in a fast-paced environment.
- Valid Texas driver’s license preferred; military experience may substitute for some requirements.
Working Conditions
Full-time, onsite role based in North Houston.
Travel required to additional Houston-area locations (Conroe, Rosenberg, etc.) as needed.
