Job Title: HR Generalist

Industry: Non-Profit / Union-Based Organization

Location: Rockville, MD

Assignment Type: Contract-to-Hire

Pay: $25 – $28/hour depending on experience (approx. $65–70k upon conversion)

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8 AM–5 PM | 5 days onsite

About the Role

Our client is seeking a detail-oriented HR Generalist to join their Human Resources team. This role will support a variety of HR functions, including high-volume recruitment, onboarding, benefits administration, employee inquiries, and event planning. The ideal candidate thrives in a process-driven environment, communicates effectively at all levels, and maintains composure under pressure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage full-cycle recruitment efforts, including job postings, agency coordination, resume screening, interview scheduling, background checks, and candidate communications.
  • Lead onboarding and orientation programs for new hires and temporary staff.
  • Serve as a point of contact for employee questions regarding HR policies, benefits, and leave administration.
  • Reconcile monthly benefit invoices and transmit payroll/salary updates as needed.
  • Plan and coordinate employee engagement events such as appreciation days, holiday parties, and monthly gatherings.
  • Maintain personnel files and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment regulations.
  • Support HR communications, including newsletter content and policy updates.
  • Assist with reporting, compliance filings (ACA, EEO), and offboarding procedures.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 2–5+ years of HR experience (recruiting, onboarding, event planning, administrative HR tasks).
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; comfortable working in highly process-driven environments.
  • Soft Skills: Highly organized, polished, approachable, reliable, and calm under pressure with excellent communication skills.
  • Education: Associate or Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business, or related field preferred.
  • Industry Background: Non-profit and/or union-related experience is a plus.
