Position Summary

The University of New Mexico's OneStop Student Employment Office is seeking up to two (2) motivated, detail-oriented, and reliable students to join our team as HR Tech Assistants. This role offers hands-on experience in Human Resources and student employment processes, making it an excellent opportunity for students interested in HR, business or administration.

Preferred, not subjected to: Business majors with a Human Resource concentration or related field.

Responsibilities

  • Post and update student job listings on the UNM Jobs portal.
  • Review and process student hire paperwork to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Process I-9 documentation and verify eligibility in accordance with federal labor laws.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student employment records.
  • Process hiring requests for UNM's main campus as well as branch campuses like Taos, Gallup and Valencia.
  • Ensure student employment processing is completed efficiently, accurately, and on schedule.
  • Assist staff with orientations, Welcome Back Days, Student Employment Week and other events.
  • Respond to phone calls and email inquiries regarding student employment procedures, polices, and requirements.
  • Assist students and departments with navigating through the student hiring process.
  • Assist with compliance tasks related to federal and state labor laws, UNM policies, and HR best practices.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Work-study award is required. Please update your work study award on your application.
  • Current enrollment as a UNM student in a degree seeking program.
  • Must be making Satisfactory Academic Progress.
  • Must be able to commit to working a minimum of 20 hrs/wk (maximum of 28 hrs/wk). Office hours are 8am-5pm (M-F). Schedule arranged around academic commitments.
  • Must complete extensive training in Student Employment processes, Confidentiality, Banner, UNMJobs, I-9 completion, Sexual Harassment and Safety Training immediately after hire.
  • Must have the ability to create professional working relationships with management, staff, and co-workers.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy to follow established procedures.
  • Professional written verbal and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information responsibly.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to adhere to a strict schedule.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, email, Adobe) and navigating files. Willingness to learn UNM's software systems.
  • Customer service skills and professional, helpful demeanor when assisting students, staff, and faculty.
