Job Summary: The HR Generalist will play a crucial role in supporting various human resource functions, including recruitment, employee relations, performance management, training and development, and compliance with labor laws and regulations. This position requires a proactive approach to HR issues and a strong understanding of best practices in human resources management within the contracting industry. This role will be an effective communicator with excellent organizational skills and a commitment to fostering a positive work environment.

Duties/ Responsibilities:

  • Manage the full recruitment process, including job postings, candidate sourcing, screening resumes, conducting interviews, and facilitating the selection process
  • Collaborate with hiring managers to understand staffing needs and develop job descriptions
  • Conduct onboarding process for new employees, including orientation, training, and documentation
  • Serve as a point of contact for employees regarding HR policies, procedures, and workplace concerns
  • Address and resolve employee issues and conflicts, promoting a positive work environment
  • Conduct exit interviews and analyze feedback to improve retention and workplace culture
  • Support the performance appraisal process, including goal-setting, performance evaluations, and providing guidance on performance improvement plans
  • Assist managers in addressing performance-related issues and implementing performance management strategies
  • Identify training needs and coordinate employee development programs to enhance skills and career growth
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of training initiatives and recommend improvements
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws and regulations, as well as company policies
  • Maintain and update employee handbooks, HR policies, and procedures as necessary
  • Conduct regular audits of HR processes to ensure compliance and best practices
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee records, including personnel files and HR databases
  • Prepare and maintain HR reports and metrics for management review, analyzing data to inform decision-making
  • Manage HR documentation processes, including new hire paperwork, leave requests, and employee changes
  • Assist in administering employee compensation and benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and other employee benefits
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding compensation, benefits, and leave policies
  • Collaborate with management to promote workplace safety and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations relevant to the contracting industry
  • Assist in developing and implementing safety training programs and protocols
  • Participate in HR projects and initiatives
  • Support the implementation of HR technology and systems to enhance efficiency and effectiveness
  • Network with other HR professionals and participate in industry events to stay current on HR trends, practices, and regulations to relevant to the contracting industry
Education/Certifications/Licenses
  • Education
    • Extensive experience in HR or related roles for individuals without a degree
    • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology, or related field

  • Certifications
    • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP is a plus
    • PHR or SPHR is a plus
    • OSHA 10 or ability to obtain
  • Licenses
    • Driver's License
Experience
  • 2-5 years of relevant experience in human resources, encompassing various HR functions such as recruitment, employee relations, performance management, and training
  • Experience working in the construction or contracting industry is a plus
  • Hands-on experience managing the recruitment process, including job postings, candidate screening, interviews, and onboarding new hires
  • Experience in addressing employee concerns, managing conflicts, and fostering a positive workplace culture
  • Experience in supporting performance management processes, including conducting performance evaluations and assisting with performance improvement plans
  • Experience in identifying training needs, developing training materials, and coordinating employee development initiatives
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations
  • Experience in maintaining employee records, managing HR data bases, and preparing HR reports for management review
  • Experience in administering employee benefits programs and responding to employee inquiries regarding compensation and benefits
  • Familiarity with health and safety regulations relevant to the contracting industry, and experience in promoting a safe work environment

  • Proficient in managing the end-to-end recruitment process, from job posting and interviewing to hiring and onboarding new employees
  • Skilled in handling employee concerns, conflict resolution, and promoting positive employee relations
  • Experience with performance appraisal processes, supporting performance improvement plans, and coaching managers on employee development
  • Ability to clearly and professionally communicate with employees, management, and external parties
  • Strong listening skills and emotional intelligence to build trust and rapport with employees at all levels
  • Ability to analyze HR issues, identify solutions, and implement effective changes
  • Skilled in addressing employee disputes and grievances calmly and professionally
  • Capability to manage multiple HR responsibilities and prioritize tasks effectively
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy in documentation, reporting and compliance tasks
  • Familiarity with HR information systems (HRIS), applicant tracking systems (ATS), and payroll software
  • Basic understanding of project management principles
  • Strong grasp of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations
  • Ability to develop, interpret, and enforce HR policies, ensuring alignment with legal standards
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, project-driven industry, with flexibility to adjust to changing priorities and responsibilities
  • Capability to handle the unique demands and challenges of the contracting industry
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and integrity
  • High standards of ethical behavior and professionalism, ensuring fair and consistent treatment of all employees
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
