Human Resources Generalist
Position Summary:
The HR Generalist supports staff recruitment and retention by coordinating various human resources activities throughout the employee lifecycle, from recruitment to off-boarding.
Essential Duties:
Great Teaching & Learning (Instructional Infrastructure)
- Maintains knowledge and expertise in HR-related regulatory issues that affect staff relative to timekeeping, safety, licensing, USDA/nutrition services, and State Department of Education guidelines.
- Conducts research and responds to issues or inquiries from district leadership/staff to support alignment with instructional operations.
- Develops strategies, implements initiatives, and conducts activities to recruit qualified candidates.
- Counsels applicants on requirements for hire, transfer, reassignment, credentials, and certification.
- Participates in development, implementation, and monitoring of recruitment and retention plans.
- Onboards new staff members.
- Provides information and assistance on benefits, retirement, and leave options.
- Assists employees with benefit enrollment and changes.
- Evaluates and processes employment offers.
- Provides guidance on promotions, salary offers, and compensation equity.
- Partners with management teams across the district, serving as primary HR point of contact.
- Delivers guidance and support to administrators, managers, supervisors, and employees regarding HR policies/procedures.
- Troubleshoots complex employee issues and coordinates resolutions.
- Guides HR operational issues and assists in developing new programs/initiatives to meet management needs.
Builds collaborative relationships with district staff, departments, and vendors.
- Ensures accurate position allocations at sites and departments.
- Interprets federal and state laws, Board policy, and regulations related to employment.
- Identifies and works with the HR team to improve business processes and optimize system capabilities.
- Maintains compliance with employment laws (ADA, FMLA, HIPAA, Title VII, etc.).
- Provides accurate and timely HR service delivery.
- Monitors and evaluates HR practices to ensure efficiency and accountability.
- Bachelor's degree in HR, Business Administration or related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in Human Resources.
- Proficient in using an HR Information System (SAP, Oracle, PeopleSoft, WorkDay, etc).
- Proficient in using an office management suite such as Microsoft Office or Google Suite.
- Working knowledge of current federal and state employment laws and regulations, including but not limited to ADA, COBRA, FLSA, FMLA, HIPAA, USERRA, Title VII, and Title IX
- Ability to research, retrieve, analyze, and summarize data to develop clear and concise written reports and presentations.
- Ability to work independently and use rational judgment in the selection of appropriate resources to use in accomplishing assigned work.
- Ability to work collaboratively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with OKCPS HR staff, other departments, and vendors.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines, and multi-task multiple projects and activities.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Regular attendance is required.
- Human Resources certification through SHRM or HRCI
Physical/Mental Requirements:
- Must have adequate manual dexterity to write legibly and perform required duties on the computer.
- Must have adequate visual acuity to read, interpret, and transcribe written material and other required duties.
- Requires normal range of hearing and clear speaking abilities to interact appropriately with others in person and on the telephone.
- Requires some stooping, bending, stretching, and occasional lifting not to exceed 25 pounds.
- Sitting for prolonged periods of time.
- May periodically require work outside of normal business hours, including weekends, under sometimes. stressful conditions in order to meet business needs and strict deadlines.
- Office duties will be performed in a well-lighted, climate-controlled environment.
