JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary

The Pharmacy Cashier is the face of the pharmacy and sets the tone for all in person interactions with the patients. Customer service skills are essential to their role. They are responsible for operating the cash registers, but it goes far beyond that. They carry the responsibility of making sure that prescriptions are given to the correct patient and conveying information. Additionally, cashiers assist in maintaining a well-stocked and attractive retail department

Education and/or experience

  • High School Diploma (or GED or High School Equivalence Certificate);
  • One year of experience in a retail pharmacy environment preferred.

Essential Functions

  • Customer Service:
    • Answer telephones, respond to questions or requests.
    • Assist customers by answering simple questions, locating items and referring them to the pharmacist for medication information.
    • Greet customers upon entering the pharmacy.
  • Operate cash register and complete accurate deposits daily.
  • Verify patient identity/authority to pick-up prior to release of prescriptions.
  • Assist with preparation and completion of deliveries.
  • Retail Inventory Control:
    • Receive and store incoming supplies, verify quantities against invoices, and inform supervisors of stock needs and shortages.
    • Maintain invoices and ensure follow-through on shortages, credits, returns, etc.
    • Rotate stock and pull short-dated/out-of-date products.
    • Assist in maintaining accurate inventory records.
    • Establish and maintain relationships with vendors
  • Pharmacy:
    • Receive written prescriptions or refill requests and verify that information is complete and accurate.
    • Enter and verify accuracy of patient demographics, insurance and allergies in the pharmacy management system.
    • Relay basic information to patients.
  • General:
    • Maintain professional and clean storefront;
    • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive health and business information; HIPAA
