Overview
Leidos has an opening for a Waste Management Technician at NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio. The Waste Management Technician will support the Waste Management and Environmental teams and spill response program.
Responsibilities
- Ensure proper management of hazardous materials, including the completion and review of waste profiles for Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) regulated hazardous waste, universal wastes, used oils, and infectious waste; TSCA regulated asbestos-containing materials, and PCBs.
- Sample environmental media for characterization, manage stormwater, conduct Underground Storage Tank (UST) inspections, provide spill response, review property and equipment for hazards prior to disposal, and coordinate DOT transportation services.
- Provide additional support such as inspections, waste characterizations, review and maintenance of shipping and disposal records, completion of reports (weekly, monthly, and annual), property decontamination and remediation, coordinating subcontractors and jobs, and other duties as assigned.
Schedule
Must be available to work a flexible schedule and be on call.
Security
Must be able to pass a Public Trust background investigation. U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Residence is required due to length of investigation required for non-U.S. persons.
Education and Skills
- Required: High school diploma and 5 years of experience. A degree in chemistry, environmental science, or related field is preferred with experience.
- Ability to work under variable field conditions (weather, insects, and/or limited personnel and vehicle access).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly PowerPoint, Word, and Excel, for presentations, reports, and other uses.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with a variety of personalities; possesses the ability to interface with client and on-site personnel.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to perform continuous physical labor, including moving materials up to 50 pounds.
- Capability to evaluate problems as they arise; situational awareness; and understanding of how actions could impact the team’s overall goals and objectives.
- Ability to follow prescribed safety procedures at all times while performing duties.
Desired Experience
- OSHA 40 hr. HAZWOPER training.
- Prior experience working with hazardous materials; knowledge of RCRA disposal regulations, knowledge of DOT regulations, knowledge of BUSTR regulations.
- Experience operating lift equipment, such as forklifts, straight trucks with lift gates, pallet jacks, and drum dollies.
- Able to obtain the following trainings within the first 90 days of employment: RCRA training, DOT training, OSHA 29 CFR Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) 40-hour training, and FEMA ICS trainings ICS-100, ICS-200, ICS-300, and ICS-700.

Compensation
Pay Range: $39,650.00 - $71,675.00. The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in offers include responsibilities, education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, internal equity, market data, and applicable agreements or laws.
