Leidos has an opening for a Waste Management Technician at NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio. The Waste Management Technician will support the Waste Management and Environmental teams and spill response program. The role includes management of hazardous materials, waste profiling for Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) regulated hazardous waste, universal wastes, used oils, and infectious waste; TSCA regulated asbestos-containing materials, and PCBs. The role will include sampling of environmental media for characterization, stormwater management, Underground Storage Tank inspections, spill response, review of property and equipment for hazards prior to disposal, and DOT transportation services. Must be available to work a flexible schedule and be on call. Must be able to pass a Public Trust background investigation. U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Residence is required due to length of investigation required for non-U.S. persons.

Responsibilities

  • Perform sampling of environmental media for characterization.
  • Conduct stormwater management activities and Underground Storage Tank inspections.
  • Manage spill response and review property and equipment for disposal hazards.
  • Provide DOT transportation services support and ensure proper waste management documentation.
  • Support inspections, waste characterizations, shipping and disposal records, reports, and property decontamination and remediation; coordinate subcontractors and jobs; perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Skills

  • High school diploma and 5 years of experience; degree in chemistry, environmental science, or related field preferred with experience.
  • Ability to work under variable field conditions.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel).
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with many personalities; ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to perform continuous physical labor (lifting up to 50 pounds).
  • Ability to follow prescribed safety procedures at all times.

Desired Experience

  • OSHA 40 hr HAZWOPER training.
  • Experience with hazardous materials, RCRA disposal regulations, DOT regulations, and BUSTR regulations.
  • Experience operating lift equipment (forklifts, straight trucks with lift gates, pallet jacks, drum dollies).
  • RCRA, DOT, OSHA 29 CFR Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response 40-hour trainings; FEMA ICS trainings ICS-100, 200, 300, and 700.

Pay range: $39,650.00 - $71,675.00. The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
