Laboratory Support Services – Waste Management Specialist

Pay: Starting around $21/hr.

Work Schedule

Monday–Friday 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM

Environmental Conditions

  • Able to lift objects weighing up to 40 pounds on a regular basis (up to 50 pounds when needed).
  • Adherence to all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Safety Standards.
  • Laboratory setting with some degree of PPE required (safety glasses, gowning, gloves, lab coat, ear plugs, etc.).
  • Standing for the full shift; potential exposure to strong odors (chemical, lubricants, biological products, etc.).
  • Work may occur in warehouse and waste management areas; may involve handling hazardous/toxic materials.

Job Description

We seek a detailed and upbeat team member to contribute to laboratory services, with a focus on waste management at a client facility. This role requires adherence to safety procedures and operational protocols, while providing excellent customer service and maintaining high ethical standards.

How we make an impact

Unity(TM) Lab Services supports Customer Channels Group, offering on-site services that improve supply chain and research operations. This role includes management of waste and support services for Unity Lab Services, ensuring secure handling and disposal of materials.

What you will do

  • Assist in laboratory services with a primary focus on managing waste.
  • Maintain awareness of updated policies and procedures to promote continuous growth and development.
  • Address customer inquiries with a focus on first-call resolution within specified response times.
  • Communicate proactively with supervisors regarding customer issues or potential challenges.
  • Represent Thermo Fisher Scientific in a courteous and upbeat manner at customer sites.
  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety requirements (Thermo Fisher and customer-specific).
  • Support Practical Process Improvement (PPI) initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in diligent work, problem solving, and team collaboration—preferably in a laboratory or service-based environment.
  • Demonstrated customer service experience with strong verbal and written communication skills.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Strong focus on customer needs with the ability to engage effectively with individuals at all levels within the organization.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and strong organizational skills to handle various tasks and deadlines.
  • Ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) depending on work area (e.g., lab coats, gloves, safety glasses, steel-toe shoes, respirators, etc.).
  • Strong multitasking and time management skills.
  • Dedication to providing outstanding customer support and upholding a polished appearance.
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull weights between 30 and 40 lbs frequently, and up to 50 lbs when needed, using pushcarts, pallet jacks, and forklifts.
  • Ability to work independently when required.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment physical exam, with periodic re-examinations required to ensure ongoing fitness for duty.

Compensation and Benefits

The hourly pay range estimated for this position based in Illinois is $14.41–$24.01. This position may also be eligible for a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy.
