McCain Foods is seeking a Waste Water Treatment Operator to participate in the safe and efficient operation of an anaerobic digestion system, including a biogas collection system. The role involves data collection of treatment plant operating parameters, sample collection, sludge handling and biogas production. The ideal candidate is a results-oriented team player with strong communication and problem-solving skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

What You’ll Be Doing

• The Wastewater Treatment Operator shall perform the following functions:
• Collect wastewater samples from various locations
• Analyze samples using lab equipment while following McCain testing procedures
• Rationalize test results and follow procedural adjustment strategies for efficient operation of the anaerobic system
• Perform daily inspection of equipment and buildings, recording on specified checksheets
• Make process adjustments after consultation with the Wastewater Treatment Technician and/or Environmental Control Supervisor
• Under the guidance of the Environmental Control Supervisor, manage solids inventory of hoppers, tanks and sludge storage areas
• Perform routine equipment inspections, preventative maintenance, and predictive maintenance
• Identify potential process upsets and notify the WWT Technician
• Learn operation of a biogas generation system, including monitoring and testing biogas quality
• Monitor final effluent quality and distribution to irrigation holding pond

• Comply with state regulations that pertain to the State of Washington Wastewater Permit
• Adhere to McCain compliance requirements and recordkeeping

• Calibrate wastewater treatment laboratory instruments
• Perform basic preventative maintenance such as lubrication and inspection of equipment, equipment cleaning, and parts repair or replacement (pumps, blowers, augers, bearings, gearboxes)

• Troubleshoot biological treatment system upsets to minimize interruptions
• Communicate effectively to input and correct information to the Production Team
• Maintain GMPs and promote environmental awareness and energy/water conservation

What You’ll Need To Be Successful

• High school diploma or GED
• Experience related to biological wastewater treatment
• Certification requirements within first 60 days of hire:
• McCain Forklift Certification
• McCain Scissor Lift Certification
• McCain Boom Lift (Genie) Certification
• McCain Confined Space Certification

Preferred

• 1+ years of Biological Wastewater Treatment experience
• Familiarity with a structured CMMS (e.g., SAP PM)
• Ability to complete training for anaerobic digestion and biogas generation
• Proficient in operation of an anaerobic digestion system
• Experience in a food manufacturing environment with food safety compliance

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation: Starting at $28.74-$37.18 USD hourly + bonus eligibility + hourly pay differential for applicable shifts. Benefits include health coverage, retirement benefits, paid leave, and well-being programs. Details vary by location and role and are provided during the application process.
