Job Posting – Water/Wastewater Technicians I & II (ORC)

City of Victor, Colorado – Public Works Department

The City of Victor is seeking motivated and dedicated individuals to join our Public Works team as Water/Wastewater Technician I (Entry-Level) and Water/Wastewater Technician II (Operator in Responsible Charge – ORC). These positions are essential to ensuring the safe and reliable operation of the City’s water and wastewater treatment facilities.

Position Overview

Water/Wastewater Technician I – Entry-Level
This position assists with the daily operation and maintenance of the City’s water and wastewater plants. The role includes sampling and testing, recordkeeping, basic maintenance, and learning regulatory requirements under the guidance of senior staff. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience and work toward state certification.

Water/Wastewater Technician II (ORC) – Advanced-Level
This position serves as the City’s designated ORC under Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) regulations. Responsibilities include leading treatment operations, ensuring regulatory compliance, preparing reports, training operators, overseeing plant adjustments, and managing communication with regulatory agencies.

Key Responsibilities

Technician I (Entry-Level)

  • Assist in daily water and wastewater plant operations.
  • Collect samples and perform basic field/lab tests.
  • Monitor gauges, meters, and equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records and support compliance documentation.
  • Perform routine maintenance on facilities and equipment.
  • Learn and apply safety protocols and regulatory standards.

Technician II (ORC – Advanced Level)

  • Lead and oversee plant operations as the designated ORC.
  • Ensure compliance with permits, regulations, and reporting requirements.
  • Adjust treatment processes for optimal performance.
  • Conduct advanced sampling and laboratory analysis.
  • Train and guide other operators.
  • Coordinate maintenance and vendor repairs.
  • Serve as primary contact for inspections, audits, and regulatory communication.

Qualifications

Technician I

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Preferred: 1 year of related utility or mechanical experience.
  • Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.

Technician II (ORC)

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 5 years of water and/or wastewater treatment experience.
  • Current Colorado Class B or higher Water and/or Wastewater Operator Certificate.
  • Must meet CDPHE ORC designation requirements.
  • Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.

Working Conditions

  • Indoor and outdoor work in all weather conditions.
  • Exposure to noise, chemicals, hazardous materials, and biohazards.
  • Physical requirements include lifting up to 50 lbs., climbing, bending, and working in confined spaces.
  • Positions are subject to on-call rotation and may require evenings, weekends, and holidays.
