HireUp Talent is seeking a dedicated and safety-conscious Hazardous Waste Materials Environmental Technician. Responsibilities include handling, collecting, packaging, storing, and disposing of hazardous and non-hazardous waste in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations (EPA, DOT, OSHA).

This role is ideal for individuals with a military background, a positive attitude, and a willingness to learn. It is a full-time position, Monday through Friday, from 6:00 am to 2:30 pm, located near Savannah Airport. Compensation ranges from $22.00 to $25.00 per hour based on experience. Forklift certification is mandatory, and OSHA 40-hour training can be provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, collect, segregate, label, and prepare waste for handling, storage, and disposal.
  • Operate drum handling equipment, forklifts, and other waste management tools.
  • Perform routine inspections of waste storage areas.
  • Conduct waste characterization and assist with profiling for proper disposal.
  • Ensure compliance with RCRA, DOT, and other regulations.
  • Maintain accurate waste inventory and manifest records.
  • Respond to chemical spills and emergency cleanup following safety protocols.
  • Support audits, inspections, and reporting related to environmental compliance.
  • Coordinate waste shipments with internal teams and external vendors.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Preferred: 3 years of hazardous waste handling or environmental services experience.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations (RCRA, DOT, OSHA) is a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to wear PPE, including respirators.
  • Ability to pass background check and drug screening.

Preferred Qualifications

  • HAZWOPER (40-hour) certification.
  • Forklift certification.
  • Associate's degree or higher in Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Chemistry, or related field.
  • Experience with lab pack or industrial waste management.

Skills and Competencies

  • Attention to detail and safety.
  • Organizational and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Physical stamina to lift up to 50 lbs and work outdoors.

Work Environment

  • Primarily onsite in industrial or field settings.
  • Exposure to hazardous materials and chemicals.
  • PPE required at all times in designated zones.
